Kenny’s Westside named Alton Brown’s favorite in Peoria

When Food Network host Alton Brown hits the road on his Inevitable Edible Tour, his secondary mission has been exploring the local cuisine in each tour stop. After sampling some of the most recommended joints, he declares his favorite .
Before his multi-act performance at the Peoria Civic Center Theater on Thursday, Brown perused the Peoria fare, selecting local favorites like Cyd’s Gourmet Kitchen and Thanh Linh Vietnamese. But the ultimate winner was revealed by Brown late Thursday night–a fitting time, really–in the Kenny’s Westside Pub delicacy known as the corned beef quesadilla.
Sean Kenny, owner of Kenny’s Westside, said Friday he could barely contain his excitement between seeing the tweet and having his phone blow up with messages.
“And my mom’s been beside herself all day,” Kenny joked. “Alton’s her hero.”
Kenny counts Brown as one of his culinary heroes, too, and said how honored he was a respected chef chose his menu (“He’s not like Guy Fieri,” Kenny said.”)
Brown would have been in good hands with any item on the menu, according to Kenny, but he was particularly satisfied that Brown chose a specialty item like the corned beef quesadilla.
“It really speaks to how loyal our customers are that so many recommended Alton to try us,” Kenny said. “I’m so glad.”
