CHILLICOTHE — Summer Camp Music Festival announced its 2015 lineup Monday afternoon with a collection of old favorites, first-time appearances, local acts and a legendary headliner.
The festival, which will take place over Memorial Day weekend at Three Sisters Park, features five sets each from Summer Camp godfathers moe. and Umphrey’s McGee, celebrating their 15th and 13th years at the festival, respectively. The rest of the headlining group includes Widespread Panic, STS9, Big Gigantic, John Butler Trioand legendary rock outfit Steve Miller Band.
“We’re always looking for something that our audience will find appealing, that they wouldn’t expect, but that they would find cool,” said Mike Armintrout, director of marketing for Jay Goldberg Events. “Steve Miller is obviously a classic, historic band.”
Armintrout likened Steve Miller Band to unexpected headliners from previous years such as Zac Brown Band, Jane’s Addiction and Huey Lewis. STS9 and Big Gigantic represent festival favorites, and Widespread Panic continues Summer Camp’s sterling reputation as a jam band haven with the band joining the lineup for the second time. John Butler Trio will make its first appearance at Summer Camp.
Billed a little lower on the lineup are a mixture of bands from a vast array of genres: Trampled by Turtles, Keller Williams & Grateful Grass, Xavier Rudd & The United Nations, Paul Oakenfold, The Floozies, Future Rock, The Infamous Stringdusters and Joe Russo’s Almost Dead. Trampled by Turtles might be the most mainstream of the group as a bluegrass and folk quintet that has garnered huge crowds at many major festivals in the past three years. Armintrout also gave high praise to Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, who he described as “pretty much the greatest Grateful Dead tribute act of all time.”
Other bands included in the lineup include central Illinois acts such as Peoria’s Way Down Wanderers, Bloomington’s Matthew Curry, Cosby Sweater, Sun Stereo and Bone Jugs N Harmony.
The full list of musical acts performing at the 2015 Summer Camp Festival can be viewed at www.summercampfestival.com, and more artists will be announced in the coming months. Three-day tickets for the festival also can be purchased at that website.
Next year marks the 25th anniversary of moe.’s formation and its 15th year headlining Summer Camp. Along with that distinction, Armintrout teased that the festival will have something in the works to highlight the achievement.
“There are lots of special things we have planned,” Armintrout said. “It definitely will be an amazing time for a person to come for the first time, or the 12th, 13th or 14th time.”
